Pam Spremulli is the artist of the title poem and cover for THE PANDA BANDA AND OTHER POEMS FOR CHILDREN. An award winning artist, Pam hails from the picturesque and quaint village of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Pam has a cheerfully optimistic view of life that is visible in the striking and colorful images created in her artwork. Her unique interpretation of subject matter is graphic and bold.
I remember looking at photographs, illustrations, fine art ~ anything really ~ that would help me “see” what I had created in my poem, “The Panda Banda.” In my mind’s eye the jungle had to be bold and vibrant, with greens, reds, yellows and purples. There would be colorful dancing, costumed jungle animals. And, right in the middle of this bright, polychromatic world would be three main characters in black and white!
Who could capture the scenes for the children reading the poem? Who could visualize the movement and the fun? I found my answer in a lady from Chagrin Falls, Ohio by the name of Pam Spremulli. Pam is a graphic artist par excellence. As she puts it, “The mouse is my brush, the monitor my canvas.” Her work is energetic and daring whether it be something she translates into a book, onto a small canvas or up a wall as a towering mural. Pam absolutely captured the rhythm of the vibrant jungle and the troop of jivin’ jungle wildlife. The six pages for the poem “The Panda Banda and Other Poems for Children” and the cover for the book are very merry and beautiful! Thank you, Pam.
