On a Rocket Ship
Do you want to go with me
on a rocket way up high?
We can blast off real fast
and fly across the sky.
Let’s go dig up space rocks
on the planet Mars,
and after that we can run and jump
and catch 100 stars!
Did you know on Jupiter
there are terrible thunderbolts?
They are powerful and big,
with a million trillion volts.
There are asteroids in space.
We will need a bomber gun
to shoot them down and break them up
as we fly around the Sun.
And on the planet Pluto
there’s bad guys everywhere.
They have claws for hands and 15 eyes
and squirmy worms for hair.
It’s pretty weird on Venus.
There are girls who kiss your face.
We’ll zoom right out of there
and go some other place!
Like Saturn, that sounds fun!
We can fly around the rings.
We’ll whirl through space chasing aliens
and other scary things.
Mercury is way too hot.
We’d burn up with a blast.
It would melt our suits and helmets
and our spaceship real fast.
But we can ice skate on Uranus,
and swim in Neptune’s seas,
and last, we’ll steer right for the Moon
to have a bite of cheese.
When it’s time to jet back home
Mr. Moon will smile and say,
“So long, young astronauts.
Come again another day.”
